CHOOSING A SOFA

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SOFA

Choosing a Quality Sofa by Comfort

Each person has their own way of sitting, and preferences for comfort vary widely. For that reason, there is no single “correct” answer when it comes to seating comfort.
As a general guide, if you can sit on a sofa for around 15 minutes without any strain on your body and stand up naturally, it can be said that there are no significant issues with its comfort.
However, to make everyday living more comfortable and more enriching—
there are a few important things about sofa comfort that we would very much like you to understand.

  • Comfort Designed Around the Individual

In studying ergonomics, we encountered two major challenges in sofa design.
The first is that sofas shared within a household often do not suit everyone equally, as differences in height and build affect how well a given size fits each person.
The second is that sitting, in fact, engages more upper-body muscle activity than standing, raising the question of whether the body is truly able to rest.
After many years of exploration, we arrived at two essential principles: adjustability and the freedom to relax in a variety of postures. By valuing these, we believe it is possible to create an ideal sitting experience for each individual.

  • A Sofa You Can Adjust to Suit Your Body

Many chairs and sofas are designed around an average height of approximately 170 cm, based on the typical build of a Japanese male.
As a result, for someone around 150 cm tall, the seat may feel too high or too deep, leading to an unstable sitting posture.
To address this issue, we have developed a sofa that allows for precise adjustment of comfort by using cushions placed in front of the backrest, enabling the seating position to be tailored to different body types.
By fitting the individual more closely, the sofa reduces fatigue even during prolonged use and provides a deeper sense of relaxation.

  • Designed for Relaxing in Any Position

Through conversations with our customers, we realised that sofas are used far more freely than we had imagined—people put their feet up on the seat to relax, or sit on the floor using the sofa as a backrest.
Indeed, sitting in the same position for long periods places strain on the body, so it is natural to want to shift posture.
With this in mind, we designed a sofa that allows for freedom of movement: deep seats with low backrests.
This enables a variety of sitting positions, making your time at home more comfortable and enriching.

Choosing Upholstery – Balancing Texture and Function

The upholstery plays a major role in the overall impression of a sofa. Beyond its visual appeal, the daily usability and feel against the skin are greatly influenced by the choice of material. In particular, deciding between fabric or leather is a common dilemma for many people.

  • Fabric Upholstery – Colour and Comfort

Fabric upholstery offers a wide range of colours and patterns, making it easy to coordinate with your interior. It is highly breathable, keeping you comfortable even during long periods of sitting. Its higher friction helps maintain stable posture, reducing strain on the body. The characteristics can be further refined depending on the type of yarn used:
Cotton: A natural fibre with excellent moisture absorption, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.
Linen: Smooth and pleasant to the touch, strong enough for regular washing, making it ideal for everyday use.
Wool: Slightly textured, but highly resistant to dirt and deformation, making it a durable, high-performance option.

  • Leather Upholstery – Elegance and Durability

Leather sofas offer a sense of sophistication and refinement, along with exceptional durability.
Coated leather is resistant to stains and fading, making it a practical choice for households with young children or pets.
We also offer natural, uncoated leather for those who appreciate the beauty of ageing. Over time, the texture and character of the leather deepen, revealing a unique charm that only genuine leather can provide.
